TopTropicals Short Q&A

Q: My garden in South Florida got extensive cold damage due to record freeze in our area. Some branches look dead. Whaen is a safe time to start pruning?

A: For Florida and similar climates with mild winters, we strongly recommend to wait with pruning until end of March - April. You will be amazed that some branches you considered dead may sprout new leaves once night temperatures stabilize above 55F. Besides, pruning promotes new growth, and you don't want tender sprouts to be damaged by possible cold spell. The plant should save energy for new growth until the conditions become perfect.

Japanese Star Anise, Licorice. Handsome foliage and fragrant flowers. The foliage and stems with a delightful anise odor that reminds of root beer with hints of licorice. Very low maintenance plant.
