Mango-Food - Smart Release Fruit Tree Booster, 1 lb

Custom blended smart release fertilizer with a famous 8-3-9 formula. It is formulated especially for establishing Mango trees. It is formulated for hot climates and excellent for all young tropical fruit trees, including Annonas, Avocado, Lychee, Jackfruit, Papaya, Banana, Tropical Cherries and Berries, and Citrus.
Mango-Food has a perfect NPK ratio for tropical fruit trees in warm climates, especially the ones not fruiting a lot yet, and slow release nitrogen that won't burn the roots. It will ensure your fruit trees have the meaningful elements required for vigorous growth. Precise amounts of macronutrients and micronutrients help produce strong growth, high yield, larger fruit size, and better juice quality.
DIRECTIONS:
In-ground plantings:
- for young trees not yet fruited, apply 2 tablespoons per 25 square foot of area.
- for established trees, apply 1 cup per 25 square foot of area.
Potted plants: apply 1 teaspoon per each 1 gal of soil.
Fertilize once a month during the active growth period when temperatures stay above 65F, preferably from 75 to 90F.
ELEMENT % CONTENT:
NPK: 8-3-9.
Water-soluble Micro-elements: Boron (B) 0.06%, Magnesium (Mg) 2.30%, Sulfur (S) 9.21%, Iron (Fe) 0.32%, Manganese (Mn) 0.10%, Zink (Zn) 0.06%.

What is grafted plant

Q: What is a grafted plant?

Grafting is a method of vegetative (or asexual) propagation where a piece of one plant (scion) selected for its flowers or fruit and containing the desired genes to be duplicated is inserted into a piece of another plant (rootstock), with a strong vigorous root system, usually a seedling.

Benefits of the graft:

  • making a clone of the parent plant ensures the same cultivar, since most fruit trees will not come true to seed
  • taking a scion from a mature plant reduces time to flowering and fruiting (from 10-12 years for a seedling to 2-3 years or less for a grafted plant)
  • introducing dwarfing, hardiness, disease and pest resistance.
  • easier propagation method when other means like cutting or seed is not successful

Condo mango. Alampur Baneshan originated in South India and is considered as one of the finest dessert mangoes in the country. The fruit are large, averaging 14 to 16 oz. They are oblique-oblong. The skin color is green, even when ripe, and is overlaid with characteristic corky dots covering the fruit surface. As with most other fine dessert mangoes of India, it is best harvested hard-green and ripened at room temperature. In this manner one can expect an exceptional, multi-leveled flavor, from the deep and resinous to the intensely sweet. This is a mango for the true connoisseur, not the beginner, as its flavor could prove to be overpowering to the unaccustomed palate. The fruit are uncommon outside of India and it is improbable that they will enter into international export markets.

Angie mango originated in South Florida. The flavor is classified in the Alphonso class of mangos with a deep sweetness and sophisticated profile rich in apricot. This variety is valuable due to its relatively small growth habit, rich and complex flavor, and good disease resistance. It was named after Angie Whitman, wife of Bill Whitman and a trustee of the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. Fruit is yellow to orange in color at maturity, and average about 1 lb. The fruit is oblong and saffron yellow with Indian orange blush on the sun-exposed shoulders. The skin is smooth and without visible lenticels. The flesh is tangerine orange and without fiber. The flavor is rich and sweet.
The trees are considered semi-dwarf and easy to manage through pruning. The disease tolerance is excellent and given its early season it often can be harvested before the rainy season in South Florida. The tree is semi-dwarf and highly manageable with annual pruning. Size can be maintained at or below 8 ft with consistent production.

Baptiste is a popular Haitian dessert mango. It is a mid-season fruit here in SW FL, but in its native climate it can fruit year round. It is a small, manageable tree which makes it a great choice for space limited gardeners. The fruit is around 14 ounces with a mottled yellow skin when ripe. It has a firm, sweet flesh which holds its shape in fruit salads and other desserts well.

This mango is a new release from Zill, derived from Edward parentage and is similar in taste and flavor characteristics to Alampur Baneshan variety. The large green fruit holds a wonderful rich sweet flesh. The tree is prolific and so far has done well here in SWFL.

Cac is a selection from Vietnam, where it was singled out for consistent yields, a beautiful appearance and superb eating quality. The fruit are ovate and are 18 oz with an uncommonly smooth skin. The fruit are greenish-yellow with a lemon yellow flesh with no fiber. The flavor is uncomplicated, blending the elements of citrus and peach with a gentle floral bouquet. The tree is vigorous, with an open and leggy growth habit that requires close attention to branch tipping and shaping. The fruit have good disease tolerance and ripen in the middle of the mango season.

Carrie Mango - the flavor is by far the most outstanding feature of this variety. It has absolutely no fiber and extremely rich in flavor, sweet, aromatic and a pure pleasure to eat. You will savor every mouthful! Its compact size makes it an excellent dooryard tree that requires minimal care. Both fruit and tree have little to no problem with fungus or disease. Lack of color and firmness are the only shortcomings of this superb variety. To determine where to pick, look for a subtle yellow color at its base. Do not let the fruit drop from a tree, or it will bruise since it's completely fiberless. Many people agree that this is the best tasting mango in existence!
