Adenium hybrids - many varieties, Grafted

What is grafted plant

Q: What is a grafted plant?

Grafting is a method of vegetative (or asexual) propagation where a piece of one plant (scion) selected for its flowers or fruit and containing the desired genes to be duplicated is inserted into a piece of another plant (rootstock), with a strong vigorous root system, usually a seedling.

Benefits of the graft:

  • making a clone of the parent plant ensures the same cultivar, since most fruit trees will not come true to seed
  • taking a scion from a mature plant reduces time to flowering and fruiting (from 10-12 years for a seedling to 2-3 years or less for a grafted plant)
  • introducing dwarfing, hardiness, disease and pest resistance.
  • easier propagation method when other means like cutting or seed is not successful

Toothache Plant is a medicinal herb that has been used for generations to manage the pain of toothaches. Both the leaves and the attractive golden flowers can be used as a natural anesthetic. Simply chew the leaves or flowers for a few seconds then you will experience a tingling and numbing sensation in your mouth. Cooked leaves lose their strong flavor and may be used as leafy greens. Both fresh and cooked leaves are used in dishes such as stews in northern Brazil. Flavor is described as having an odor of citrus, herbal, tropical or musty odor, and its taste can be pungent, cooling, tingling, numbing, or effervescent. Acmella Oleracea extract is considered a natural alternative to Botox. Applied topically, Acmella Oleracea reportedly reduces muscle tension, reducing facial wrinkles caused by tense or contracted facial muscles.
The plant is a small, erect, it grows quickly and bears gold and red inflorescences. It is frost-sensitive but perennial in warmer climates. Can be grown in a container and as a houseplant.

Groundcover and low-growing 2ftVine or creeperSmall shrub 2-5 ftSemi-shadeEpiphyteModerate waterRed/crimson/vinous flowersYellow/orange flowers

Aeschynanthus speciosus is perhaps the most spectacular species within its genus. Flowers may be 4 inch long, are orange with the inside of the mouth orange-yellow and with a dark red bar across the lower lobes which also have scarlet borders. The plant is displayed to best advantage in a hanging basket, where the broad surface area allows the trailing stems to root down at intervals and send out abundant side-shoots, perfect as hanging or trailing plant.
These plants require high humidity and warmth throughout the growing season, as well as strong, but not direct, light. These plants are perfect for a greenhouse, sunroom or conservatory.
Perfect for hanging baskets/pots to best display their lovely cascading stems and attractive flowers or in containers placed on a pedestal or windowsill. The plant can be kept in a bathroom window sill or kitchen for increased humidity.

Albuca spiralis Frizzle Sizzle

CaudexCan be used for bonsaiGroundcover and low-growing 2ftSmall shrub 2-5 ftFull sunShadeSemi-shadeModerate waterFragrant

This is one of the coolest plant you've ever grown! Albuca spiralis Frizzle Sizzle (the Corkscrew Albuca) is a South African bulb selection with green onion-like leaves that look like they were curled with a curling iron. Each plant has its own personality...some have short, tightly curled leaves, others have taller, looser curled leaves. Over time, the bulb will multiply, resulting in a full, very wild and wacky clump. Albuca spiralis blooms in the spring with spikes of orchid-like chartreuse-yellow flowers. On occasion, Albuca Frizzle Sizzle will rebloom later in the season. Not only is this a fun plant that will capture the attention of everyone who sees it, but it is super easy to grow, too. Treat it like a succulent. Lots of sun, well draining soil, and let the soil dry between waterings. Hot and dry conditions seem to encourage the most extreme leaf coils. In norther climates, Albuca spiralis Frizzle Sizzle is easily over wintered indoors on a sunny window sill. Or stop watering, let the bulb go dormant, and store in a cool, dry location. Fragrant yellow flowers appear in spring on flower spikes that are adorned with 10-20 blooms per spike. The blossoms have a light vanilla fragrance. Grow in full sun and allow the soil to dry out between waterings. There are no pest or disease problems with Frizzle Sizzle so it makes an ideal home garden plant that’s distinctive and eye-catching.

Its growth habit, however, gives the appearance of a full bushy plant as the stems emerge at different times, giving it a tiered effect. One of the best houseplants for its ease of care. Large shrub 5-10 ftSmall shrub 2-5 ftFull sunSemi-shadeBog or aquaticOrnamental foliageSubtropical, cold hardy at least to 30s F for a short timeFlood tolerantUnknown name

The Reticulata Elephant Ear is a very rare plant seldom seen in the wild. Very narrow foliage with a blue to green coloration in an odd pattern giving it the name reticulata. It has elongated leaves with a patterned coloration and tiger-colored stems that you won't find in other Alocasias. This variety makes a great houseplant thanks to its manageable size. For coloration development, give it a little time to grow up. Elephant ears' attributes become even more defined when they mature.
A few years ago plants were selling as high as 150.00 for small starts. That was if you could find a grower and get on the waiting list for a start of this rare and unusual plant. The foliage is very narrow and sharply arrowhead or hastate shaped. Each leaf is a dark blue-green with an odd coloration effect commonly called reticulated. The foliage looks like the reflection of light off of water. This is an extremely unusual feature for any plant. With green and brown striped petioles. The plant can grow 3 to 5 feet tall in ideal conditions.
